Almost Famous

On the weekend I watched a movie called Almost Famous. It's set in the 70s, and is about a very uncool 15 year old boy who wants to be a music journalist. He ends up going on tour with a rock band and I won't say anymore because if you haven't seen it you definitely should and I don't want to ruin any of it for you.

Here's the trailer...

The movie is both funny and heartbreaking, however, this is not what makes it so great. What takes it to the next level is the perfect styling and vintage soundtrack which capture the time of rock and roll in which the movie is set.

Coincidentally, while I was browsing the Nasty Gal website I saw a top which was called the 'Penny Lane Crop Top' (Penny Lane is the name of the main female character in the movie) and a dress called the 'Almost Famous Dress'. Pretty weird right?

Winter Florals

Florals are one of the biggest looks of the spring summer seasons but that doesn't mean they can't be worn in winter too. However, this doesn't mean you should break out your tiny, flowery summery dresses and end up with frostbite! The most important thing that winter florals need is a black background, which stops the look being too light and summery. You want to go for a grungy 90's look so try mixing the florals with denim and plaid. Make sure the look is more of a messy, thrown together style instead of a pretty, girly look. Layering will help achieve the messiness and will also help with the cold winter weather. Wear with messy hair, smudged black eyeliner and Dr Martens.

Portobello and Outfit Post

Today I went to Portobello with my mum. It's one of my favourite places in London because it's got some amazing vintage shops and the market also has a lot of vintage clothes and furniture. It's also pretty close to my house unlike Spitalfields, which is my favourite place in London but it's so far away! I've actually done a post on where to shop in Portobello before so if you want to read that it's here: Portobello Market

Portobello has actually changed quite a lot since I last did that post though. A lot of the shops there are pop up shops so they change every few months. I noticed today that there are loads of really cool menswear shops right now in Portobello. I went in to a few to buy some Christmas presents and they have a great range of really cool makes such as HUF, Obey, Carhartt and alife so boys you should definitely check them out. I have a bit of an obsession with boys clothes so it was actually great for me too!

For myself I bought a vintage Barbour jacket, which I've actually wanted to for ages! It was originally £60 but I found a small tear in it so I managed to get it for only £40 which i though was a pretty good deal.

I then found this small vintage case, which I've also wanted for a long time! I wanted it for my room because I'm redoing it and I thought it would be cool for me to get a whole load of vintage cases to keep my things in.

The last two things I bought were two vintage bag: a clutch and a small black shoulder bag.

And here's my outfit post that I promised:

Jumper: Vintage from Beyond Retro
Shorts: Topshop (customised by me)
Tights: Topshop
Shoes: Ash
Jacket: Vintage (the one I bought today)

Just using this post to alert everyone to a few new features on my blog.

Firstly I have a page about advertising so if you're a business, shop or another blog and are interested in advertising please click on the link and contact me.

And the second new feature is my question and answer page so if you have any questions (preferably fashion related, but it doesn't have to be) then don't be shy just click the link and send me a question and I will answer it and the answer will appear on that page. The questions will all be asked anonymously (unless you have tumblr and want me to know who you are) so don't worry about asking weird or embarrassing questions.

Body Chains

An emerging trend in accessories is the body chain and it's started popping up everywhere; it's even in Topshop now which is proof that the trend has really taken hold. I have to be quite honest, this trend for some reason kind of scares me. I think it's the fact that you've got these chains sort of binding your body and it makes me think of being in prison. Regardless of my strange fear of this accessory I still think a simple bodychain looks amazing thrown over a plain t-shirt or bodycon dress. We'll see if I ever face my fears and give in to the trend...

Rush Hour

This editorial, titled 'Rush Hour', was shot in the subways of New York and showcases a few of my favourite designers: Acne, Stella McCartney, Alexander Wang, Isabel Marant and Ksubi. The look is casual and effortless and proves to us that the simple look of jeans and a t-shirt is timeless. The windswept hair and natural makeup compliment the look and show us that simplicity always works.

Festive Knits

December has just begun so it's time to get into the Christmas spirit by wrapping up warm in some wintery knits. Go for a cute look with prints such as fairisle, reindeers and snowflakes. Remember these prints are very busy so don't wear to much of this print at once. You could probably get away with one main item and then an accessory if the colours aren't too bold but usually it's best just to stick to one printed item to wear with block colour basics. Knit on knit looks great though so you could try wearing some fairisle print leggings with a plain knitted jumper or maybe a snowflake print dress with some thick wooly tights. The more festive the better!
